Week 17 Hermana Jones

This week has been pretty good.  I am super sad that it is the last week of the cambio because we have no idea which one of us is leaving and who is going to stay here in El Oro pueblo magico.

We found two miracle families this week. One has visited church with other missionaries and we finally found her. They were so happy when we came and their daughter wants to go on a mission. They accepted baptism but they needed to come to church two more times to be baptized. They were all set to come to church when their daughter who is 6 ( My English is getting awful..I started to write their daughter who has 6 years) spent the whole night in the hospital because she has a really bad infection. She started out about 55 pounds at the begining of the week and now is only 40 pounds. it was a little scary to see because I have never seen someone so skinny in my whole life. Anyway, she brought her daughter to us after church so the Elders could give her a blessing. And what do you know-- her daughter is already doing better! I was so happy when she called and told us.

Then we found another family-- I don't know if I talked about her last week, but she had a baby when she was 14. We are now talking to the whole family and they are super receptive. Especially the mom of the daughter who had a baby. All she wants  is for her daughter to be happy. When we first talked to them, the mom said she and her daughter were always fighting and that was the reason she let us visit because she saw two girls that she wanted her daughters to be like. The daughter who has the baby is also really receptive because she wants a good life for her baby and doesn't want her baby to make the same mistakes. Especially when we started talking about repentance the daughter pretty much cried the whole lesson. I just love visiting that family because they are so kind and have so many questions.

Then this week was also possibly the best Sunday of my life because I saw Diana CONFIRMED!!! It was the first time on my mission that I saw someone confirmed that I had baptized :) In my first area we baptized on our last Sunday and then last cambio I saw confirmed the investigators of the missionaries before. It was such a special feeling and I realized that baptism and the Gift of the Holy Ghost go together. You can't have one without the other.
Then after church it was really sad because hermana Joseanny (the hermana in our ward who comes out teaching every week and has the cutest daughter ever who is my favorite) had a miscarriage. I have honestly never seen someone in so much pain in my life. I started crying too just because this is a lady who is always so happy and willing to serve and always so content and to see her like that was one of the saddest things I have ever seen in my life. Since today was our Pday and her husband had to go to work we spent the whole morning with her. She was super sad at the beginning but it was better at the end because we were talking and laughing. We brought a list of everyone in the ward to go through and she would say who was active, less active, and inactive. It made me laugh because for me this would be the most annoying thing ever but she got so excited going through she was telling us who was inactive and where they lived and when she was feeling better she would come out and teach with us. She just amazes me sometimes. She is doing better but keep her in your prayers.

Ok I also found A huge huge huge scorpion in my room last night. I will send a picture but it doesnt do it justice. My companion was screaming and wouldn't even come into the room so I had to kill it. It was a bad idea because when we killed it it smelled sooooo bad. My companion said that it was poisonous because the type of scorpion that is poison smells really bad.

Also, a funny statement from this week: "since your eyes are blue....Do you see everything in blue?" when I said no, they quizzed me and kept asking me what color different things were... brown, red, blue, different shades of blue. The thing is this person was about 30 years old so he wasn't a little kid. Oh and we have tons of trees in our yard... apples, nuts, I don't know what is is called but it is like a mixture of cherry with plums. The thing is no one eats them so the owner said that we could gather as much as we wanted.  I think just this week I have eaten about 25 apples. Crazy! Anyway I made the best oatmeal ever. We only have oats so I cooked them and mixed in peanut butter, chopped up some of the nuts from the tree we have and chopped up some of the apple from the tree we had. Oh also there is a fruit tree called capulines. It is pretty delicious too.

Oh, I forgot, another experience was when I was studying in Luke 22 a few weeks ago about how when the Savior was suffering angels came to strengthen him and when he was suffering he only prayed more. I didn't know why during my personal study it kept coming into my mind, so I went and looked for it again and though at least I need to share it with the family we were eating with that day. When I shared it though, it wasn't the family who needed to hear it, it was my companion because she was really sick all day and she told me after I shared it that she was going to call the mission president and say she couldn't work the rest of the day because she was too sick but after hearing the scripture she said she couldn't go back. And then the next day was when hermana Joseanny had her miscariage and everyone was really focused on her but no one excpet my companion realized that the husband was also in a lot of pain so she read him that scripture and he started crying. It was really sad, but my companion always knows what to say to people in situations like that, which makes me happy because I never do.

Anyway I love all your pictures from the vacation. I am in shock at how tall Dan is. I hope you have a great week and continue to have fun on the vacation!

Love,
Hermana Jones

Thankful for the posting. It is a joy to experience her compassion for the people, to realize her confidence in the Scorpion attack!, and to realize the amount of life experiences she is receiving in 18 short months.
What a blessing she is to us. G Pop
