So I started shaving with no shaving cream, I just used my razor and relied on the little lubrication strip at the top. I learned that it worked fine, as long as I shaved right after a warm shower.
I recently got a Gillette Fusion razor free in the mail, and it also works great with no shaving cream. I have several cans of shaving cream at home, but I am pretty confident they will not get used.

Wow, Bump, you are braver than I imagined. Haven't you suffered from severe razor rash? BTW it's great to follow your blog and see how your family is! jpt
hey, bump,
i just clicked on this from dad's computer, and this post made me laugh. i love that you put "pappy george style" because, a couple years back, gramma gave me pappy's razor and lather brush (along with a cool holder for them). that is how i have shaved since, with pappy's brush and a shaving soap (obviously i dont use his razor, but i keep it there for decorative purposes).
by the way, this is cousin andy...i suppose my blogger id doesn't necessarily indicate that...
Interesting! and great for the environment, and your grocery bill!
Surprisingly, I don't really get razor rash. As long as it is after a shower, my whiskers are soft enough to shave with no irritation.
The one downside is that sometimes I miss a spot because I don't have the shaving cream to mark where I have shaved. I got some good advice from Mom, and passed it along to JPT-- the virtues of shaving up, then down, for a great shave. I might be able to avoid the misses if I followed this advice better.
I never knew so many in our family abstained from shaving cream. Uncle Dew told me that he quit using cans of shaving cream decades ago since it seemed environmentally irresponsible. He uses a brush, and Susan puts the unused small remains of soap bars in his shaving cup instead of throwing them away.
It's kind of cool that Andy uses pappy George's cup. There's something very primal about man's battle between face and blade.
